The Design Process

Consultation

Our journey begins with an initial visit to meet you in your garden. It is essential to meet in person to discuss
your aspirations, whilst seeing the current state and scale of your existing garden. Following this I will provide you with
a fee proposal that will set out the brief and the corresponding fees. The design fees relate to the size of the garden
and complexity of the design. Each combination of client and garden is unique.

Site Survey

Before I can begin to design your dream garden I need to take an accurate survey of the plot. This will record
the house, boundaries, levels, existing features, trees and shrubs. I usually do this myself although if your
garden is particularly large or complicated we may need to commission a land surveyor. I will also take photographs to document significant views from within the house and garden.

The Design Plan

Using the information from the site survey and the design brief I will create a garden design for you. I will present a coloured plan illustrating the new layout with a supporting mood board that will help you to visualise the key elements. In a face to face meeting we can use this design plan to discuss ideas, plants and materials and any tweaks that may be required.

The Construction Plan

Post meeting I can now incorporate any amendments into a fully detailed construction plan. This more technical drawing will provide the landscape contractor with the information needed to accurately cost the work and to build the garden.
It will include details of materials and suppliers. At this stage, we can also discuss options for lighting and irrigation.

The Planting Plan

Now things get really exciting! I will provided an image board illustrating the key plants which will make up your
planting plan. Once agreed, I will draw up a schedule listing the plant varieties, quantities and sizes required
as well as a plan showing the location and spacing of the proposed trees, shrubs and perennials.

Project Monitoring

I will remain in touch throughout the construction of your garden, making visits to the site as the project progresses.
Should any issues arise throughout the build I will make myself available to address them.

Planting and Maintenance

I will source the plants and hand pick any key specimens required. I like to be on site for the planting and if I am not
planting myself then I will set out the plants prior to the contractor planting them. I remain available to help with the ongoing care of your garden and offer quarterly check ups in its first year.  I'm extremely invested in the gardens I create and love to keep in touch to ensure it remains everything you'd hoped for.
